National Recreation

One of the top national recreation activities is visiting a National Park. There are 58 national parks spread all over the country from coast to coast and even in Alaska and Hawaii. The very first park ever established was the world famous Yellowstone Park in 1872, home of the Old Faithful Geyser. This park also has other hot springs and geysers in addition to plenty more. When looking for outdoor activities the parks in America will not disappoint.

There are all kinds of outdoor activities that can be done. One of the most popular park activities is camping. Sleeping under the stars or in a tent, roasting marshmallows over a campfire and just enjoying the simple pleasures of nature can be a wonderful experience. Most all parks have campgrounds, some of which are bigger and more luxurious than others. Another top activity to do when visiting a park is hike. Hiking trails are plentiful at national parks and give you the opportunity to see the sights while getting your exercise.

Boating and fishing are popular at parks with bodies of water. Crater Lake National Park boasts the deepest lake in the country and plenty of boating and fishing opportunities. There are plenty of other parks where you can fish and go boating as well. If you want to stay on dry land consider visiting an on site park museum or taking a guided tour. In addition to hiking tours there are biking tours, horseback riding tours, aerial tours and bus tours. The right tour for you depends on your preferred mode of travel and how active you choose to be.

For those seeking national recreation that is luxurious and accommodating try visiting a national park in the paradise that is Hawaii. When you are done at the park you have the various Hawaiian islands and resorts to enjoy. Alaska, on the other hand, has national parks that offer the opportunity of thrills and chills. Whether you want to take a helicopter ride over the icy plains or a kayak to a massive glacier you will find plenty of adventure in this state. The NPS website is a great resource if you want to learn about the nation's parks. NPS stands for National Parks Service, an agency that manages all of America's national parks.
