National Parks Information

Are you trying to find information on the National parks, the web is a great place to start. The definition of a national park is an area of land reserved by the government that cannot be built upon and is used as a wildlife and nature refuge. In the US, the Department of the Interior is in charge of managing these parks. Within the American parks you will discover not only beautiful scenery but historic landmarks and various monuments. You will want to experience some of these parks first hand when you have the chance.

Woodrow Wilson founded the National Park Service in 1916 by signing an act that regulated and governed the parks. His goal for these land areas was preservation and conservation, which is a goal Americans still share to this day. Not only are National Parks meant for conservation, they are meant to be enjoyed. Depending on which park you visit you will find hiking and biking trails, exhibits, campgrounds and more. Many families choose a peaceful park vacation over a crowded resort town. There is plenty to do and see at the parks around the country so be sure to pack your sense of adventure and your camera.

There are a large number of National Parks located in the U.S. and many other wildlife preserves, monuments and federally protected pieces of land. No matter where you are in the country there should be a park within reasonable distance. In Alaska alone there are eight parks. There are also eight parks in California. Other states where these parks can be found include Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Texas, Virginia and many more. If you are unaware of the National Parks in your state an online search can lead you to the nearest park. National Parks do charge a fee for entrance, however there are money saving passes for frequent travelers that cover admission to every National Park for a whole year. In addition to visiting a National Park you might also want to work at one.

National Parks provide thousands of jobs for United States citizens with peak employment time being the summer months. If you love nature and like to work outdoors perhaps a career with the National Park Service is right for you. At the very least, you should plan to visit a nearby park to enjoy the unspoiled wilderness and spectacular beauty that awaits you. To find out more National Parks information, check out some books on the subject or go to the National Park Service government website.
